When you think of your periods drawing close you can only think of one thing: PMS. Your mood can go from “hey there!” to “get the hell out of my room!” in a matter of seconds. Since there are only a few people in the world who really know what you are going through in that moment you need to boost your own terrible moods. The following might do the trick.
Self-pampering
Choose self-love over PMS. Go out and get a body massage or a simple Mani and Pedi to do the trick. Now would be the ideal time to spend time at the spa if you had been postponing an appointment. The massage will ease your cramps and help in relaxing you. Common systems like headaches will also be relieved.
Meditate
Sit in a corner, close your eyes and relax. Take slow deep breathes to make yourself calm. The slow breathing activates the body’s nervous system to fall into self-healing mode. It also causes the entire body to relax. Do not pull in your stomach or force anything. Just sit there and breathe.
Have a period mix
You may consider grouping your favorite songs and making a playlist you can listen to while on your period. These songs will improve you bad moods and you may even find yourself singing along. Have at least 10 songs that you can listen to over and over. The music will help you relax.
Have someone you care about around
Having your mom or your boyfriend around can seriously drift the pain of PMS. We tend to get extremely emotional during this time and having a show of support such as mom or your lover is usually a great boost. You can simply sit with them and hold their hand or lie with them in bed before you fall asleep. You will find a great sense of relief once you do this.
Watch a show you like
Put on a funny movie, standup comedy or a funny TV show. This short flick should do a quicker job than anyone else at making you smile and laugh. You can also pass time watching TV and before you know it the monster dubbed PMS will have faded away.
Don’t think about it
The next time you’re on your period and going through the worst of times try, trigger your mind not to think about the situation. I know this must sound like the worst idea ever, but you can totally trick your brain into thinking about something else other than the pain. Distract yourself as much as you can with that project you haven’t yet completed, or that errand you have been meaning to do or that call you still haven’t made to your parents. Soon enough you will begin to feel a sigh of relief at the fact that your mood is beginning to be less terrible.
The next time you are having one your monthly outbursts try one of these ideas to improve your mood. They may work for some women and not for others. Find something that works for you and stick with it.
